The Legal 500 named the Resolver Legal Team as one of Canada’s Best In-House teams as part of its 2019 GC PowerList: Canada Teams rankings. It reviewed in-house legal teams that are driving business forward by:
“…changing or forming opinions within their company or industry; developing brilliant technical solutions to complex issues; creating innovative structures to ensure that the in-house function is driving the business forward; or providing a business working model that other corporate counsel should follow.” (Legal 500)
Resolver’s Legal team does just that.
Led by General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Privacy Officer Peter Nguyen, the Resolver team provides high quality, practical, business-oriented legal services to support the business around the world. The goal for the team? Transparency, efficiency and self-sufficiency.
By operationalizing as many processes and procedures as possible and providing internal clients with 24/7 access to key documentation as well as corresponding training and guides, Resolver’s Legal team has streamlined operations across the organization. In doing so, they’ve been able to manage and mitigate risk while helping the business drive towards its objectives.
In 2018, the Legal team worked with the Product team to configure Resolver’s software platform to develop a software-based legal intake tool. The tool helps the team to triage request for legal services and automates workflows while providing complete visibility on the status of matters on a real-time basis. It also provides the team with key data about the department’s activities so that it can measure its performance in a quantifiable fashion.
“The legal intake tool is the foundation of what I believe to be a modern legal department: one that is technology-enabled and transparent, operationally-efficient and metrics-driven,” says Peter Nguyen, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Privacy Officer at Resolver.
